8th Annual Bowling for the Gamma Scholarship

This year's bowling event was the biggest and best EVER!  We had 3 new members (Abby Wright, Kristin Sherman, and Nikki Epple-Townsend) attend and it was clear they had a great time which is just as important as the money we raised!  All together, 10 Delta Zetas attended and with their family and friends, we had 23 bowlers and a few more spectators.  This year, we had a raffle with donated items including handmade pottery from the Bowl's owners, Donnie and Julie Speiker.  In total, we raised $1,033.00 which is a record for our event.  This event has now raised almost $5,000.00 in the past 8 years.

The Gamma scholarship started when the Gamma chapter at the University of MN closed. The House Corporation had money remaining from the sale of the house and other accounts. For 20 years, this money satuntouched in an account until the late 1980's when older members from the Gamma chapter, now members of the Twin Cities Alumnae Chapter fund raised to send the original scholarship fund amount of $10,000 tothe Delta Zeta Foundation.  The Foundation still hosts the funds, but has asked that we raise the restricted amount to $25,000.  We have fundraisers such as this one to raise that money (which has a greathistorical significance to our members) in addition to maintaining an award gift each year. The Twin Cities Alumnae Chapter awards a deserving college Delta Zeta from our region a scholarship of around $250-$500 to pay for sorority expenses.

This event could not be possible without the support of the Lakeville Family Bowl.  They have donated the bowling center and their $7 fee per person back to the charity in addition to gifts and gift certificates each year. Please 'like' them on Facebook or visit their webpage at www.lakevillefamilybowl.com to keep updated on specials and events.  TCA appreciates their continued support and encourages our members to be patrons of the little hometown bowling alley.
